Kalâat el-Andalous

Kalâat el-Andalous is a historic town located in the Ariana Governorate in northern Tunisia, about 30 km from the capital. It is known for its name, which means "Castle of the Andalusians," referring to the Andalusian Muslims who settled there in the 17th century after being expelled from Spain.

The town is known for its agricultural nature, thanks to the Medjerda River—the longest river in Tunisia— where vegetables, grains, and olives are cultivated, and livestock is raised.

Kalâat el-Andalous also has a fishing port and a clean beach that attracts families from across the country. It boasts a rich cultural heritage, with institutions like a cultural center, a public library, and Quranic schools. It also has a small industrial zone that provides jobs for over 1,000 people. Its population was around 26,796 according to the 2014 census.
